I have a fear of heights and am so glad I did the Top of the Rock. I am writing this because when we were looking at scheduling in an observation deck for NYC I was so hesitant, I was unsure how I would fare while being up the top. I read a review someone else did on their experience with a fear of heights taking on the top of the rock so I feel compelled to write my thoughts. Their review actually helped push me to do it. So here is a breakdown to ease anyone else's concerns. The lift to the top only takes around 45 seconds, it actually feels quicker then this, I would say it feels like 20 seconds. Once you're at the top you get off within a foyer inside the building on the 67th floor. There is plenty of space so you feel secure. There is no shortage of windows but it is very difficult to look directly down so you feel at ease. Once I was off the elevator, I felt very safe and was not concerned at all. Before going up, I had told myself that I was not going on any of the balconies, however within a few minutes I had built up the courage to go onto the balconies on the 67th floor. This then continued to going to the 68th and 69th floor balconies. The whole time I felt absolutely fine. I had no concerns, I was taking photos in the windows and on the edge of the balconies. If you're scared of heights and unsure about viewing the Top of the Rock, I could not recommend it more. It turned out to be my highlight of the trip. I hope just like the other review I read pushed me to take it on, you should yourself do it, you will not regret it!
