This was a nice stop to break up our drive to New Orleans. It was fun to learn how Tabasco is made and about the history of the founding family and island. The self guided tour is a great idea, but didn’t work as well as we would have liked. The signage and app didn’t match up, but it wasn’t too hard to follow. Our app stopped a few times in the middle of a talk, and it wasn’t easy to get it to continue. We loved the store and the samples. The jalapeño ice cream was surprisingly good. We didn’t try the restaurant, but it looked fun.

Avery island no longer accepts American cash to tour their factory, buy things in their gift shop or eat in their restaurants. I do not buy things on credit when i have cash in my hands. I boycott any and all companies in America that do not accept American cash. Guessing avery island belongs to foreigners now that they don't accept cash. I don't like the idea that they have my credit card information with so many companies getting hacked. I promise that i will never return to Avery Island and will never buy another tabasco product. So very Un-American and very shameful !!! They lost all of my business and i will be sure to not recommend it anymore to house guest.

It was worth renting a car and taking a day trip to Avery Island from New Orleans. We loved the factory tour and the jungle gardens. They give you mini tabasco bottles when you check in. The staff is super nice. We learned so much and have been eating a lot of Tabasco sauce since our visit. We had hoped to walk around in the Jungle Gardens but the mosquitoes were terrible. The drive through option was enjoyable though. We even saw a few alligators.
