This is our 5th tour with Marta and Michelle. (This is also my 12th food tour on my travels around the world. We take a tour wherever we go.) From my experiences Tasting Kauai knows how to do it right, the best of all! The info provided by the tours and their app make our annual stays more fun and healthy culinary wise. (And great for locals, too!) I have an extremely restricted diet, paleo, and they have always made adjustments to the menu with chefs so that I can check out the "natural" foods on their menu. (They are very accommodating so don't hesitate to talk to Marta prior to your tour!) Now it is very easy for me to find my kind food using their app (constantly updated, so better than the book).

Marta and Dan were terrific hosts on the East Side tour. First stop was at a Taro farm which was fun and informative. It appears that Marta has just begun to host the tours herself and her style was to let the vendor or food provider lead most of the discussion. As they were informative and relaxed presenters it worked. Our group asked lots of questions and all were answered well. As the area is rural the stops were less conventional than other food tours we have been on but were sure had some good food and were full at the end. I would go back to eat at all places we visited which is my test for satisfaction. One thing my wife and I noticed is that every food provider had nice things to say about Marta and usually when she as out of earshot. She apparently facilitates cooperation and shares ideas for how to improve their business. They hold her in great affection. After the tour I bought her book and it is really well done and fun to read. If we return to Kauai we will take her other tours and highly recommend the fun experience with her and Dan.

We took the South Shore food tour with Marta and Dan on Dec 28. We were promised a taste of Hawaiian street food and were not disappointed. We started at a small jam factory where we got to taste some of their pastry creations and had several jam samples. We visited a food truck where the chef uses molecular gastronomy to craft his food, and we ate the best burger - ever! Then onto stops at a local 'mom & pop' grocery store for an acai bowl (huge) and a generous portion of poke, which was a Japanese-Hawaiian fusion. Incredibly delicious! After that, local gelato - Yum! Finally, a culinary market that featured many local food businesses where we received a very tasty pastry and had the option to sample many other delicacies. Overall, by the end we were full and very happy. We never would have found these places on our own, so really appreciate the local knowledge and expertise of Marta and Dan. They are friendly, upbeat, and fantastic guides.
