This awesome train ride from Williams Az to the Grand Canyon is the best way to travel. The scenery is great and the train goes slow enough to make it easy to take pictures from the train. They have good snacks and drinks and the bathroom is clean too! Seats are comfy (we were in the Luxury Parlor) and roomy. The train personnel are very nice and fun to travel with. There is also great entertainment during the train ride.

We did participate in a package offering - train, meals, hotel - but I don't recall if it was referred to as the Adventure Package. I'll deal only with the train trip in this review. Leaving the Williams train station promptly at 9:30 a.m. the train proceeds about 63 miles to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. On the way your "conductor" will provide information about some of the passing sights as well as what to see and do at Grand Canyon Village and when to board for the afternoon return to Williams. Along the way - both ways - you will be entertained by very good and personable singers as well as members of the morning's Wild West Show. Upon arrival at the South Rim you are on your own unless you elected a separate bus tour. We elected to be on our own and had a great time. We hiked the Rim Trail, snacked at a snack bar and enjoyed the magnificent (of course) scenery. A very enjoyable 3-1/2 hours at the park. We chose to upgrade the rail car to the dome car and it was very worthwhile. One thing is that you sit facing the forward direction of the train. (By the way, you receive assigned seats that makes for easy boarding.) The other rail car accommodations have face-to-face seating that could have you making the trip facing backwards. Probably not a big deal for some people. Note: Some classes of service provide a free buffet of snacks both ways. Alcoholic beverages are also available for a charge (as long as the train is outside the boundaries of Grand Canyon National Park). An enjoyable, slow and entertaining train ride served by the great folks from the Grand Canyon Railroad. Highly recommended.

Living in Arizona, we have visited the Canyon many times, but this is the first time by rail. What a great day! After overnighting in Williams, we arrived at the Depot to pick up our tickets (had pre-reserved via thetrain.com). You will be treated to a Wild West show prior to boarding your lovingly restored train car. There are various classes of service and we did opt for the least expensive which wound up being just perfect. Each car had a rest room and there is a cafe car for snacks. Upper classes of service will come with snacks or meals. We did request an adults only car and it was available. Our very charming and KNOWLEDGEABLE Passenger Assistant, AmberRose dispensed all kinds of tips so first time visitors would make the most of the 4 hours we had at the Park. She, without a doubt, MADE our trip perfect! Will not give away all the details of the ride so as not to be a spoiler. It is a breeze to purchase online, and they will offer AAA/AARP discounts. Just be sure to have your card/number availble when picking up your tickets. Also, since you will be entering the National Park, you will need to purchase a day visit ticket unless your are an Annual Pass holder (which we are). If you are a pass holder, make sure you bring it to pick up tickets.
