While driving across the USA we stopped for two nights in Williams with an inclusive package consisting of a round trip to the Grand Canyon (130 miles), two nights lodging and four meals. The trip itself was enjoyable and unique and the hotel/restaurant offering was good. Comments: 1. Inclusive of meals, accommodations and entertainment, the overall cost of the package can be pretty high. You might be able to save some by handling hotel/restaurant individually. The Grand Canyon Railroad Hotel and Fred Harvey package did not materially detract from the experience, but didn’t add much to it either. 2. The train comes to a part of the Grand Canyon NP somewhat distant from Mather Point. We liked this as Bright Angel has fewer crowds and views as good as Mather Point. 3. The Fred Harvey Restaurant was very crowded on Saturday evening with a line awaiting table out the door. By request, the hotel management can convert the meal voucher to a voucher for bar food at the hotel bar. This worked well for us. 4. The rail experience stand on its own. The gun fight and train robbery are well done but maybe unnecessary for adults. Overall, the Grand Canyon Railway is a great way to experience travel by rail and the Grand Canyon National Park. Highly recommended.

We booked the train ride and one night stay at the the Maswik Hotel in the Grand Canyon. Package included a night stay before and after at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams, with 2 buffet dinners and breakfasts included. The buffets are your basic buffet fare. Food was good, it could have been hotter. Don’t think they use steaming trays. Only hot food was the pasta or omelette counter where they are made to order. Waitstaff are friendly and really work the room, bussing tables and serving drinks and desserts. The hotel is clean. Nice size rooms. Staff do a great job. We checked two large pieces of luggage at the Hotel. And took two smaller pieces to the Grand Canyon. When we got to Maswik our small pieces we in our room. When we got back to Williams all four of our luggage were waiting in our hotel room. Maswik is an older lodge that could use some renovation, but the rooms are clean. Bring a flashlight so you can walk around at night. Train ride was great. Although we booked the dome car, don’t think I would do it again. Landscape is very flat or you are going through trees. View isn’t much different than the seats below us. Entertainment on train makes the time fly.

The train to the Grand Canyon was wonderful. It was clean and efficient and the people were friendly and attentive. We went "first class" which included snacks and beverages going and returning, plus a cash bar. Glad we got there in time for the short western show. Boarding was quick and efficient. During the ride, we were serenaded by cowboys, and given an overview of our destination. We took a bus tour when we got there so we wouldn't miss the main areas and to ensure that we would get back to the train before departure. They left at exactly 3:30 as advertised Coming back we relaxed with a cocktail while waiting for the "robbery". We are so happy we took this tour.
