Ground Zero Museum Workshop
The Ground Zero Museum Workshop in the Meat-Packing District on West 14th Street features stunning images, rare video and remnants from the Ground Zero Recovery Period, all packed into an intimate and emotional space. On display are 100 of Gary Marlon Suson's most well-known images, including the charred Genesis 11: Tower of Babylon Bible Page found in the WTC rubble, the Frozen Clock stuck at 10:02am, marking the collapse of the South Tower and several FDNY Honor Guard images. The actual clock itself is also on display in the museum. The only all-access, sanctioned photographer at Ground Zero, Suson's one-of-a-kind, 3-D photo installations place viewers into the "hole" at Ground Zero. Visitors are also allowed the rare opportunity to pick up and hold World Trade Center steel and window glass. Tours are limited to just 25 people, and include a powerful 15-minute video. The Ground Zero Museum is about 5-minutes from Ground Zero via the "E" train. Daily tours last about 90 minutes and include the intimate stories behind 100 images and remnants. This is a "don't-miss" museum that touches the heart of young and old alike. No graphic or morbid images are displayed and the museum is known for its sensitivity to a very tough subject matter. Suitable for children.

Arrived at 911 Museum and Workshop on Friday May 5th. It was closed???!!! We buzzed in several times over half hour period but no answer from the workshop. I went into the shop next door who told me that nobody had been in or out of the workshop for last few weeks. I phoned the number listed many times but no answer. I am disappointed and disgusted that I’ve been charged for this and couldn’t visit. I only booked the visit based on the TripAdvisor reviews..! Don’t spend the money unless you know you will get in,.,!

May 5th was a wonderful day at the Museum Workshop. Sold-out with many friendly people from around the world. The difference between THEM and Shauna from Ireland who wrote this review of a closed Museum is that the other guests were all informed that we were opening at 12:40pm, not 12:30pm as scheduled. Had Shauna entered her Irish mobile phone # into the system when she bought the tickets instead of using a local SIM Card which no one answered -- we would have done what we ALWAYS do, which is WhatsAPP her that we were opening 10 minutes late. We run a tight ship here and leave nothing to error. Her Florida local SIM card didn't work. Furthering this -- , she arrived super early at 12:10pm, gaining unauthorized entry into the building -- expecting the Museum to be open, which it was not. So by 12:30, she was fed up and left the premises. We officially opened at 12:38pm. We have already refunded her her money to her credit card. As far as her getting advice from from "Deli Employee" about the hours of our Museum, she may wish to use a more reliable source next time. We did not become a 5-star Museum by stranding people, as Shauna has mistakenly written. All one needs do is read the real reviews of those who have experienced the Museum to understand that we are a 5-Star Museum and we do not care about money, we care about guests having a meaningful experience. Most NYC attractions have a 45 min to one hour wait to get in, so we feel 8 minutes was not too much to ask her to wait, but as we stated, we had no way to contact her. The NEXT 1-star review following this 1-star review was also written a member of the same party. We appreciate Shauna's enthusiasm for early entry, but perhaps the other 9/11 Museum might be a healthier fit for her as they offer early entry for an additional fee. Also, when traveling abroad, it is important to leave a bonafide contact # in case an attraction must contact you.

The place was closed down. We arrived 15 mins before our due time. No one answered the door. Eventually some person who lived on one of the floors arrived and we were able to access floor where museum was supposedly at. Nothing. No one there. Another group arrived for same time as us and they too had to leave. It’s a disgrace that the site is up as active and money still taken. My daughter tried to buy a ticket today and it was allowing her. Where/ how do I get a refund?

This is a DUPLICATE review from the same party from Ireland that wrote the other 1-star "review" and should be removed. However, nobody "lives on other floors." It's a Museum building. This is false data. The Museum Workshop was open for business and sold-out May 5. Suggestion to the Purrier Family: 1.) Don't arrive early to Museums and expect access, it will not happen. 2.) Do not enter CLOSED buildings that are not open until 12:30pm. It is not proper to try and access the inside of Museums that are closed 3.) When buying a ticket, enter a working phone number so you can be notified in case of changes to schedule. The average wait time at any NYC attraction is 45 min or longer. Our average wait time is zero minutes. This dramatic "review" is steeped in inaccuracies. And it is a duplicate review. 9/11 Museum Workshop, Winner of two "Top 25 Museums in the USA" Awards on TripAdvisor works hard to create meaningful experiences and greatly values its visitors, and the reviews from real attendees show this. On May 5, the Museum opened EIGHT minutes late, at 12:38pm, however this guest left at 12:30pm, angry and fed-up from their inability to gain early access at 12:10pm. The guest left no Irish mobile phone in the system to be contacted via WhatsAPP that we were opening 8 minutes late. This person's credit card was already refunded for the 2 tickets.

This venue complements the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The latter focuses almost exclusively on the history of the Twin Towers (its design and construction in the late sixties and seventies), together with the terrorist attacks in 1993 and, of course, 2001. The Workshop focuses on the recovery period through the superb photography of Gary Suson. As the official photographer for the NYFD, he had unrestricted access to the site and was free to document the painstaking efforts of the recovery workers to search for victims’ remains even as the gargantuan clean-up task moved ahead. Through his photographs and many artifacts, the visitor will experience a poignant and personal connection with those who died that day, the men and women who risked their own lives to recover the victims’ remains, and come face to face with the great truth that, even in the midst of great evil, goodness and hope remain: “Et lux in tenebris lucet, et tenebrae eam non comprehenderunt.” — Jn. 1:5. This place is crowd-free — perfect for quiet introspection. Each photo and artifact has is accompanied by Gary’s commentary, providing the visitor with the backstory for all of them. The entire collection takes about 90 minutes. Highly recommended!
