Ground Zero Museum Workshop
The Ground Zero Museum Workshop in the Meat-Packing District on West 14th Street features stunning images, rare video and remnants from the Ground Zero Recovery Period, all packed into an intimate and emotional space. On display are 100 of Gary Marlon Suson's most well-known images, including the charred Genesis 11: Tower of Babylon Bible Page found in the WTC rubble, the Frozen Clock stuck at 10:02am, marking the collapse of the South Tower and several FDNY Honor Guard images. The actual clock itself is also on display in the museum. The only all-access, sanctioned photographer at Ground Zero, Suson's one-of-a-kind, 3-D photo installations place viewers into the "hole" at Ground Zero. Visitors are also allowed the rare opportunity to pick up and hold World Trade Center steel and window glass. Tours are limited to just 25 people, and include a powerful 15-minute video. The Ground Zero Museum is about 5-minutes from Ground Zero via the "E" train. Daily tours last about 90 minutes and include the intimate stories behind 100 images and remnants. This is a "don't-miss" museum that touches the heart of young and old alike. No graphic or morbid images are displayed and the museum is known for its sensitivity to a very tough subject matter. Suitable for children.

This little museum was amazing! It is a must see when in Manhattan. We went to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum first thing in the morning and had a reservation for this museum at 2:15 that afternoon. Plan at least 1.5 hours, but if you want to see and hear all of the commentary on the Bose audio headsets, you should plan closer to 2 hours. Sadly, we planned too many attractions that day and had to cut this one a bit short. We didn't get through everything in 1 hour 15 minutes. This museum is different than the 9/11 one in that it has numerous artifacts from Ground Zero. The photographer, Gary Marlon Suson, was the only photographer allowed at Ground Zero by the FDNY during the recovery phase. He was given permission to take photos and the items in the museum. The photos are incredible. The commentary makes you fully understand each photo/artifact/section that is being described. It is so immersive. My 14 year old boys really enjoyed it, as did my husband and myself. It's on the second floor of the building. We almost missed the door to the entrance. You can either take the stairs up one floor, or the elevator. It is called the biggest LITTLE museum in NY. It has so many amazing things put into the small space. I would recommend making a reservation (which is required if you have a City Pass or other NY passes), since the space can't accommodate too many people at once. Gary is available to ask questions and give more details. In my opinion, this is an excellent compliment to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum because its focus is on the recovery phase of that period in time. It's completely appropriate for children as well. When I go back to NY, I think I will go back to this museum again to finish up listening to the last bit of commentary that we weren't able to complete.

As already mentioned in another review it is not easy to write about this unique place. The emotional intensity of this place is so powerful that i broke out in tears even though i am a fully trained and qualified emergency physician and death in what form ever is no stranger to me. Anyway it is highly recomended to visit this place, in order to meditate and remember and, of course, to support Gary the mastermind behind this workshop in his costant struggle against the forgetting. Gary is a great artist and a humanist alike and his work deserves nothing more than praise and support. Even with a few days in between i still do not know exactly what to write. This place is nothing for voyerism and desaster-worshipping weirdoes. It is a place created by human beings for human beings to demonstrate what human beings can do to another human beings and how human beings can overcome hatred, rage and fear by love, as found in this wonderful quotation: „Two bullets hit the towers, but out came one love“. That said, thank you Gary for your effort and your struggle to keep this place alive. It was an honour meeting you and I‘m still thankful for our conversation. Carry on, as long as you can stand it. God bless you, Gary! Always, Stefan from Switzerland

Very immersive experience, Gary, the official photographer, is extremely kind and professional; he took his time to explain us every detail. It was amazing as you could touch with your hand original 9/11 objects, hear hundreds of stories and facts. Our 4 years old child enjoyed the experience as well.
