I've done wonderful walking tours in London, York, Paris, and Reykjavik led by knowledgeable and affable tour guides. This tour outdid them all. Frieda was wonderful for so many reasons: a) as a former member of the Hasidic community, she knows her subject deeply, intimately; b) to insure the quality of your experience, she limits the tour size and outfits each touring member with a small receiver and earphone so you don't miss a word; c) she's incredibly warm, engaging, and forthcoming! Your frank questions are encouraged; d) her subject matter is fascinating-- there's so much to learn about this closed community. I could go on about the positive aspects of this tour! I suppose I would have enjoyed a tour of Hasidic Williamsburg given by anyone fairly knowledgeable of the community, but IMHO Frieda made a huge difference. She's smart, well-spoken, warm (she took time at the start to let everyone say a bit about who they were, where they were from, and what they wanted to get out of the tour), and engaging-- sort of like that favorite teacher you had in school. I highly, highly recommend this tour! You'll be so enriched by this time spent learning about this mysterious sect from Frieda's frank, unvarnished, yet respectful firsthand accounts.
