Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

Hoonah Whale Tours is a well run family business. Booking our tour on-line was easy and straight-forward. Maraiya picked us up from the Icy Strait Point welcome center where our cruise ship docked and shuttled us to the "Thor Too" where Captain Jordan (her husband) was waiting for us. Jordan is obviously knowledgable and dedicated to his craft. The boat was clean and very comfortable. Because the maximum number of passengers on "Thor Too" is six, you get plenty of individual attention and information from Jordan. On our 3-hour tour, we saw a number of sea lions and otters as well as at least eight humpback whales. However, the real highlight was following a male Orca for 30 minutes and watching it breach twice. Overall, we had just a wonderful experience. It's hard to imagine how it could have been any better. We found this tour here on trip advisor because we wanted a smaller tour group instead of the 40+ group that was being offered through the cruise. Jordan was very professional and personable. He not only found us whales, but he shared stories of his family and their history in that area. He also rode by a small island where he had seen seals earlier. His wife picked us up and brought us to the dock. She also was so sweet and personable. She had fresh blueberry muffins for us to enjoy on the tour. This is a family run business in which they take pride in. I would recommend them to anyone visiting this area.

Everyone was very professional and friendly. Saw several whales during the tour. Most were from a distance, however there was a mother and a baby that spent several minutes near the boat. The crew was very focused on finding whales. Was an enjoyable tour. Would take again in the future.
