We had a great time at Luau Kalamaku! My husband, 4 year old daughter, and I really enjoyed our time here, which included the plantation train ride (with pig feeding!), buffet dinner, and luau.
The plantation train ride was surprisingly nice for both adults and kids. The open air train ride was pleasant and we learned a lot about Kauai's history. My 4 year old loved seeing all the vegetation and animals, including cows, horses, donkeys, chickens, and feral pigs. The train stopped so we could feed the pigs corn tortillas, which was a blast for my daughter!
The luau itself was great. The open bar was nice (just bear in mind you can't pick up another beverage for someone else in your party, which is kind of annoying). The buffet dinner was quite good. We particularly enjoyed the fish, which was very flavorful. I also liked the macaroni salad and veggies. (My 4 year old asked me to note that she loved the cherry tomatoes in the salad!)
The post-dinner performance was quite beautiful. While I found the plot line a bit difficult to follow, the dances were remarkable. The fire dancers were particularly impressive.
Overall, we had a great time at this luau and it exceeded my expectations. A few feedback points: tell people they need to arrive by 4:45pm sharp if they are taking the train, so they can enjoy the crafts "fair" - we missed that altogether. Please also announce when and where the imu ceremony is taking place - we missed that, too.
Overall, we had a good time and would recommend this experience, especially inclusive of the train ride, for families with young children.
