Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

The buffet was horrible, the desserts were even worse but the after dinner show was amazing. The staff was friendly.

Okay the good first -- the show and the meal were outstanding! The venue is comfortable and the staff courteous and helpful. I'm glad we picked this luau option, especially for the show. Now some critique: the description of the process is a little vague when it comes to the pick-up option. Since we weren't staying at a registered resort, we had to find a location nearby but then had challenges with dealing with parking there. The other factor was it said be there at 3:30 for pick-up, but we didn't get picked up until 4:30 -- and we were one of the first stops! By the time we got there, we were able to do our train tour before the meal started, but just barely. It would have been nice to have known this, as we might have opted to just drive to the location (and save ourselves that extra cost), so as to see more of the expansive property. A note to parents -- the show is long and if you've young children they're going to have an issue sitting for so long without getting cranky/tired/bored. Not saying don't go with your little ones, but be aware that it's a LONNNGGG process especially if you do the train tour ahead of it (which I would do with kids).
