Once at the top, our local guides from Valley Isle Excursions will set you up for the best experience—pointing out incredible viewing locations, sharing tips for seeing the sunrise, and telling stories about the history of the island.

After sunrise, we’ll take a short tour of the remainder of Haleakala National Park and the nearby ranch lands.

Doug was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and definitely shared the Aloha spirit. He and Billy quickly got us to the best viewing area right up front by the railing - PERFECT!!! Of course it was very cold as was expected, and the wraps they provided plus the hot drinks once we were back in the van really helped. The ride back down was interesting, informative, and fun and we enjoyed that as well. Kudos to Doug and Billy!!! The only strong negative was the buffet breakfast after at Poi by the Pound. The string potates were ice cold and hard, NOT good after being so cold at the sunrise! The eggs and flat french toast were lukewarm and very bland. When I asked the waitress for hot chocolate, she gruffly told me that there wasn't any left. WHAT?!? I paid just like everyone else and there should have been enough for everyone. The bacon was barely cooked and my husband had stomach distress when we got back, I couldn't eat any. The only good food was the fresh strawberries and pineapple. I would definitely do another tour with Doug, but not if it stopped at that diner.

Thank you for your honest review! I texted your review to the owner of Poi by the Pound (the restaurant we eat at) and he was very upset with his staff and made some major changes! Because of your review the quality and quantity of the food is closely monitored daily, so they can make sure your families experience is never duplicated. Mahalo for help in assisting us in providing a better experience for our Ohana!

Billy and Mark were phenomenal! This was an unforgettable experience that we will cherish for a lifetime. They did everything they could to make our trip great, including getting the group up to the mountain top as one of the first groups to get the best view. Highly recommend!

What an experience, well worth the 2:00AM pickup time. Comfortable 24 person bus, continental breakfast before sunrise and breakfast buffet after. They take you there early so you get the front row at the rail, and for 45 minutes get to watch all the fabulous pre-dawn shifts in color and light. Then comes the sunrise, appearing above the opposite rim of the volcano and the clouds below. Spectacular! After the sunrise itself, the highlight of the trip was tour guide Billy. Very funny, informative and helpful, he helped pass the time, knowing when to be quiet so you can sleep, and when to pass on information, tell stories and give guidance not just about the trip, but on Maui and Hawaii in general. All in all, a great value for the money.
