Pros: The outdoor hot springs at night were magical and enjoying them while outside temps were -10 was well worth the trip. The tour of the ice museum was fun, thanks to Billie, our great guide and bartender. (Put Billie in charge of everything!). Dinner and food service at the dining room were good. We also met some lovely people who toured with us. Cons: This resort needs a lot of TLC. The Northern Lights “viewing room” is just a dark room with folding chairs that faces a window. While we did not see the lights, that is not the reason for this average review. For the cost of this tour, I expected a van with better heating (if you sat near one door, you froze) and an overall better viewing area for the lights at the resort, since this was billed as a part of the tour. A more comfortable viewing area would let you enjoy the experience with or without the lights.

Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding your experience at Chena Hot Springs. As the resort is a privately owned entity, we can only pass along guest comments and suggestions to their management team. Regarding the temperature, we understand that the cold in interior Alaska can be quite extreme. Please be assured that the vans are equipped with full heating capabilities, and we utilize new Ford Transit vans to ensure comfort. However, given the severe temperatures, the heat in the vehicles is sometimes stretched to its limits. The viewing area for the Northern Lights is part of the resort's layout, and as such, we do not have direct control over its setup. That said, many guests choose to venture outside for a more optimal view of the lights. We appreciate your understanding and will be sure to share your feedback with the resort for future consideration.

The hot springs were great and the restaurant wonderful - however a few upgrades are needed. For > $200, include the locker, towel and shoes - don’t nickel and dime us. The women’s floor was wet and slippery (Nice that you have a waiver, but where were the attendants to help clean up these puddles?). And honestly, one blow dryer for a room full of woman coming in from the hot springs, what were you thinking? When you got to the Springs, you had to hang up your towel, oh sorry you couldn’t hang it as there were no hooks. If you want a first class operation, take a moment and go visit the Blue Lagoon in Iceland - or drop the price in half.

Had a great time! Our tour guide was Evan he was fantastic! The ride to chena was not something I would have been able to drive so glad we chose to be driven, and Evan was a VERY safe driver. The ice museum was interesting and the hot spring was decent enough. The food at chena though was not good and wayyy too pricey! Eat before or pack snacks. Didn’t get to see the lights but that’s nobodies fault but the weather. Overall was a great trip, big shoutout to our tour guide for getting us there and back safely, being professional and chatting with us about wildlife.

Thank you for your review and choosing Alaska Wildlife Guide for your Chena Hot Springs tour. We do always suggest bringing snacks as it is a long tour, but CHS is a privately owned entity, so we can only give the feedback to the business.
