Firstly, be very aware that the heliport is NOT in New York, but rather in New Jersey. This isn't mentioned anywhere and I wasn't aware of this until the booking information came through the week of our booking. It wasn't terrible to get to the pick up point, but be aware of additional traveling time (around an hour for us from Manhattan) if you're staying in New York itself. If you're staying in New York I would recommend finding a company based on the island of Manhattan itself.
The helicopter ride itself was excellent. Really great aerial view of Manhattan and all its main attractions, including the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park and many more. Our pilot was excellent. It was a little windy on our flight but the ride was very smooth. He also made a good effort to point out all the special views in-between all the air com chatter, and made sure to give both sides of the craft the same view on each pass.
The rest of the experience however was not the best. General customer service from the ground crew left a lot to be desired. The older lady (who seemed to be the manager perhaps) was friendly enough but the rest of the staff were pretty miserable and a little rude. The man running the shuttle bus to and from the pick up point was friendly. However while he was quick to come and pick us up from the pick up point, our helicopter passengers had to wait for about 30 minutes after landing to be taken back to the designated drop off/pick up point. We weren't even sure if we were going to be taken back to the pick up point as we were just ushered through a gate by the ground crew after disembarking the helicopter and weren't told to wait for the bus or anything.
Our flight was originally booked for 11am but was pushed back to 12pm due to air space closure. This was fine as we were informed of this a week prior. However, we didn't actually take off until around 12:40pm, so we had to wait for over an hour (as we arrived early, as instructed). I find this rich given the threat of fines for late arrivals past the 11:15am 'check-in' time.
Given that the seats are £150, I also fail to see why there's need to pay an additional $35 (per person) 'heliport fee'. I think this is a ridiculous additional charge that's hidden away in the small print (as is the threat of having to purchase a whole extra seat if you're over 250lbs).
All in all, fantastic flight but rather poor service with dreadful timekeeping, additional charges and threats of additional charges from this company. I would probably recommend using an alternative company and wouldn't personally use this company again if we were to do this experience again.
