Had a terrible experience, the drive was speeding. Then he did not know where our hotel was, we were staying at a well know hotel near the gardens on a main street. It was hard to imagine that he didn't know how to get there. When were a few blocks away he actually rolled down the window and asked someone for directions, ridiculous. Then he pulled up at the side entrance of our hotel, not the main where you would be greeted and have your bags taken from you. I told him this could not be the main entrance and that he needed to go around, he said no this is it and got out and took our bags out and then told me I owed him $15 dollars, $5 for the toll and then $10 for a tip. I didn't want to argue with him in the middle of the street with my young child beside me so I gave him the $15. I've learned he was from Carmel Car Service and if you want to complain you leave your complaint on an answering machine and no one calls you back.
The car was waiting for us in a designated place on our arrival. However, as soon as we got into the car it was suggested that we needed to pay the full amount for the service to the driver. We were also told that on top of this there was an amount we had to give the driver for his tip. They did not appear to know that we were in possession of a pre-paid voucher. Fortunately, I had taken a copy of the voucher with me. He phoned his manager to explain this as if it had been unexpected. He then went on to say that although we had paid, there were still tolls to pay for the airport. Our paperwork stated that there may be tolls to pay but without knowing how much, we felt very uneasy. It would have helped if we knew exactly the amount due as a toll beforehand, as we did not know if we were being cheated. My advice to anyone is to make sure they take their pre-paid voucher with them as proof of payment.
Plane was late getting to gate, then huge delay at immigration, so driver had left airport.
However he returned when we called. He didn't know the hotel, it was by chance I spotted it out of the window.
Think I will take a taxi next time
