This is a must do on Maui! Don't take your rental car on the road to Hana why not have an experienced, local tour guide take you in his Jeep. Alec is the best and will not only escort you directly to numerous hidden waterfalls he will also stop at the best overlooks and steer you towards the banana break we have ever experienced, truly mouth watering. Be sure to book the full day 7am-3pm, come prepared for all weather and most importantly wear the right shoes for moss, river crossings, wet trails and some rocky terrain.

While in Maui we decided that we would like to see the Road to Hana. After talking with several people that had drove it I decided that I would rather be a passenger. Just by chance I stumbled across a tour called 'Jungle Tours Maui'. How can you go wrong cruising up the road to Hana in a Jeep with the top down; it was incredible to say the least. Alec, the owner operator picked us up at our condo at 7:00 AM and the adventure began. Alec was awesome, he shared his knowledge of the Maui's history and was able to explain the many different sights that we saw. Throughout the day we experienced the heat of the sun and the cooling of the heavy down pours which actually felt warm compared to the waterfalls which we got to experience first hand. I've never seen anyone put the top up and down on Jeep as fast as Alec or as often for that matter. Alec took us to places which most tourists never get to experience. We stopped several times throughout the day and Alec would take us into the forest by foot. We couldn't help but notice other tourists looking at us as if to say, "I wonder where they are going" or "I wonder where they just came from"! Alec mentioned many times throughout the day that it's not the drive to Hana that makes the experience unique, it's the adventure along the way. We got to crawl over rocks and bridge railings, stand under a waterfall, hike up and down the side of cliffs, etc. If you don't mind getting a little dirty the adventure was all yours but I never once felt pressured by Alec to do anything I wasn't comfortable with. Alec was very clear and couldn't stress enough about the dangers of the area we were in and made sure that we all made it through the day safe and sound. Thanks Alec, this was an experience that my family will remember for a long time. Mahalo.
