So here’s the deal. I think the road to Hana is a bit boring. Yeah you see a couple of interesting photo opps like small waterfalls but it’s just slow. The road is not at all scary and the spots where it becomes narrow, you just pull over if another car approaches. It’s not scary. What is nice is the black sand beach, except it’s packed with tourists. The banana bread we got was fantastic. The cave was eh - a bit touristy.
I liked our guide Les. He was awesome. It’s a long ride and he is talkative which helps you get through it.
The food I liked. Pasta salad which was nice and a chicken wrap (grilled with sauce and vegetables). I’m a picky eater and liked it. Didn’t try the fish.
Something strange I noticed. A guy in a blue aloha shirt came up to my wife and it was clear he drove for another tour. He asked if we were ok, we said yes, and then he said “ok I try to warn passengers with them since they drove off a cliff last week”. It was just said in a nasty way and I have nothing but respect for how Les drove us. I didn’t tell him because I didn’t want to stress him out.
Anyway if you want to do this trip, get a tour. It’s long and tiring and if helps to avoid the tourist traps if your guide knows what he’s doing. And this tour is well respected, had a great driver, a nice car, good food and I recommend it.

Aloha Bill,
Thank-you for your kind comments about Les, one of our 20 Hawaii State Certified Guides. Raised in the Hawaiian Islands, Les has a gentle nature. He has just a treasure chest of knowledge which he shares in a humorous and story telling way. Les is well respected for his many certifications on Maui and Oahu. Mahalo for mentioning the Hana Picnic lunch. Our catered food is made fresh daily and we are glad you enjoyed. Lastly, thank-you for your thoughtfulness in not mentioning to Les about the negative comment made by an aggressive competitor. Many minor incidents happen while driving the Hana Road. Unexperienced motorists and untrained drivers always add to this mix of possible minor mishaps. The state is continually repairing the highway due to the changing mountain conditions. Temptation Tours Certified Guides always drive in a defensive manner to avoid any major accidents. We appreciate your true respect for Les and our company. Mahalo for selecting Temptation Tours. We would love to welcome you back aboard when your travels bring you once again to Maui.
Mahalo,
Dave and Kathy Campbell
