When it comes to Colorado whitewater, hardly anyone knows about the San Miguel River. Which is kind of a surprise! Given how much fun it is, on top of being in proximity to bougie and beloved Telluride.

The rafting section is gorgeously scenic, exciting for all experience levels, and pretty much a must if you want to spend the morning like a local. Its red sandstone canyon juxtaposed by flourishing pine forests make for a picturesque setting to recreate on this Rocky Mountain river.

Anyone who loves the outdoors will have an absolute hoot on this tour, whether it’s your first or hundredth time rafting. Just ask our guides, most— if not all!— will agree that the San Miguel is their favorite river to run.

I joined some friends on a trip on the San Miguel with Haydn C. and it was so much better than I had expected. It was my first time and I was nervous that I might get hurt, but Haydn C. was gentle with his giant boat and the rhythms of the water were super pleasant. The next day I was a little sore from the times it got rough and we had to work really hard to finish, but I keep thinking about it and definitely want to go back next time I'm in Telluride. Beautiful river and a great guide!

Really fun. Our boat guide was John, and he was super nice. This was a Class 2-3 rapid and he navigated really well. There were about 6 boats going down together and all the guides were definitely in control and worked together yet kept it fun. My daughter (11) and husband liked it. We did wear the wetsuits (not the splash shirt though...just long sleeve wool or synthetic on top) in late June and those were worth it. A very pretty trip, it made us want to do another, longer one.

This was my 1st time white water rafting. Best experience ever. Our guide Nic was awesome, definitely would do again and recommend to all friends and family. Must do when in Telluride or Mountain Village.
