The Bryan Museum is a museum of Texas history with an intended emphasis on not making history boring - at least according to the little intro video by its founder. Overall, the museum does a decent job of providing visitors with an overview of Texas history without delving into minutiae. The displays are laid out well and incorporate technology to provide a better insight into certain aspects of various items. Situated in a old orphanage, the museum itself occupies both floors, with the basement or 1st floor being dedicated to a children's activity center. A couple of captivating features of the children's center are the "pirate cave" and the adjacent pirate ship. The ship even includes a quiz center for kids to test their knowledge of Texas history; those who fail "walk the plank." We were pleasantly surprised by the museum, particularly since it only about 4 years old. Great care has been taken to display antiquities from Texas's past, quality equal to that found in larger museums. A self-guided tour takes about 2 hours. Well worth a visit.

The Bryan Museum is housed in the historical Galveston Children's Home (a survivor of the devastating hurricane in 1900). The collection spans the history of our great state from long before Texas was Texas! Art and artifacts are well displayed, well described and so interesting. A MUST for all Texans and visitors! Don't miss it!
