This clear kayak bioluminescence tour with A Day Away was a magical, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we will never forget! I am so glad we opted to spend a little more money for the clear kayak, because it was like jumping into hyperdrive seeing all of the speckles of light fly under my seat. I was debating between three of the companies that offer similar tours, and ultimately I am so thrilled I landed on A Day Away. Their helpful customer service on the phone, quality equipment, and exceptional guides made the night worth every penny.
Our guides, Chaz and Haley, were spectacular! They were knowledgeable, kind, and funny. Our group had the rare experience of encountering two manatees “wrestling” (as Chaz put it), and the two of them remained so calm in what could have been a frightening moment. They expertly guided us to a safe route around the manatees. When we were nearing the end of our time, they didn’t rush us out of the water. After docking, they showed us jars of comb jellyfish they had collected along our journey and even took the time to capture our night with a photo.
I’m sure not every night is as perfect, but somehow we lucked out on ultra bright bioluminescence and varied wildlife, including comb jellyfish, manatees, a blue heron, lots of active fish, and a baby raccoon on the shore.
I’m not sure I would have known what I was missing if I hadn’t done the tour, but now that I have, I’m so glad I did it. This is a must-do if you’re in the area!
