I confess to landing somewhere between 3 and 4 stars on this one. We splurged on the Fred Harvey dome car round-trip but wouldn't do that again. The car attendant worked hard, kept up a constant cheery and informative patter (almost too much at times), served drinks both ways, regularly checked on everyone's comfort, and not making the drive ourselves from Williams to Grand Canyon is a boon. But four hours of the same scenery both ways gets old and the drinks and snacks, while generous, just don't justify the expense of this ticket level; we could have brought snacks and/or purchased things in the cafe car. The entertainment -- a few minutes each way of the cowboy singers who perform on the platform while the train gets ready in the morning -- felt unnecessary, and also we felt compelled to give them a gratuity. Same for the gag cowboys robbing the train on the return trip felt forced and silly, especially in our no-kids-allowed car -- we felt pressured to be "robbed" and hand over some more dollars. All in all, maybe better with kids in one of the less costly cars.
