We rode in the lower level of the Fred Harvey car both ways, and it was amazing! If you purchase tickets in the “Luxury Dome,” you should end up in the Fred Harvey. You’ll be directed to your assigned seats in the upper level at first, and there you can listen to the tour guide before the train departs Williams. At some point, you’ll learn that you have access to the lower level *and* the luxury caboose (next car over), in case you want to step outside the back of the train for pictures/videos.
We raced downstairs immediately (first come, first served) and, to our surprise, had the whole car to ourselves the entire trip to the Grand Canyon! (Except for the company of the conductor and brakeman - fine gentlemen!) The couch below was comfortable with pillows - great for being lulled to sleep to the rhythm of the train.
On the return trip to Williams, we headed straight to the lower level of the Fred Harvey again - and enjoyed the roomy, quiet car once again.
There are lower fares for travel in other cars, but this was definitely worth it for us! And we want to thank Noel for her wonderful hospitality! 😊
