We rode in the lower level of the Fred Harvey car both ways, and it was amazing! If you purchase tickets in the “Luxury Dome,” you should end up in the Fred Harvey. You’ll be directed to your assigned seats in the upper level at first, and there you can listen to the tour guide before the train departs Williams. At some point, you’ll learn that you have access to the lower level *and* the luxury caboose (next car over), in case you want to step outside the back of the train for pictures/videos. We raced downstairs immediately (first come, first served) and, to our surprise, had the whole car to ourselves the entire trip to the Grand Canyon! (Except for the company of the conductor and brakeman - fine gentlemen!) The couch below was comfortable with pillows - great for being lulled to sleep to the rhythm of the train. On the return trip to Williams, we headed straight to the lower level of the Fred Harvey again - and enjoyed the roomy, quiet car once again. There are lower fares for travel in other cars, but this was definitely worth it for us! And we want to thank Noel for her wonderful hospitality! 😊

Jane was very interesting and fun. We didn’t like the musician on the way to the Grand Canyon, but the one on the way back was fantastic!!

This was our 1st time visiting the grand canyon and I'm glad we chose the train! The ride up was beautiful. We chose the coach class and it was perfect for our family of 5. You do have to walk thru the cars to get to the snack car (if you wish to), but my kids actually thought that was neat. We walked thru the Pullman which has no AC and I was surprised that it was so comfortable in there (most windows were open), so that's actually a decent option if it's not raining. There are really large windows in coach class and I felt we could see everything just fine. The attendant was very informative and told us about the things we were passing thru along with a little bit of history. She said we could leave things locked on-board the train if we didn't feel like carrying it around the GC. We opted for a package that included a night at the Maswik, so our checked luggage was brought there for us. Once you're in the GC you can utilize the free shuttles to get around but you have to be back in time for the train. I'm glad we opted to stay the night so we could take our time exploring. If you're taking he train back that afternoon, you may want to pack a lunch or eat on the train because the GC restaurants are all very slow. Just FYI, the snack bar is card only and the entertaininers on board take cash tips. They will also take your picture on the way there and have it for sale on the return trip, so you may want to be prepared for that.
