After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

Our family of four couldn't have enjoyed the trip more than we did, primarily thanks to our superb tour guide, Dan -- a very knowledgeable, affable, funny and entertaining fellow, as well as an excellent driver. The van was comfortable, our traveling companions were nice people, and the box lunch provided was better than expected. This day trip -- our first to beautiful Sedona and the amazing Grand Canyon -- was the highlight of our 5-day stay in the Scottsdale-Phoenix area. Highly recommended!

I only had one day to visit the Grand Canyon and choosing Detours was the best thing I could do :) - Our tour guide was very nice and informative, he explained many different things along the route and answered all our questions with a smile on his face (Thanks again Mike for a great day!) - The schedule was perfect, no delays during the pickup and we came back at a reasonable time thanks to Mike's advice so we could keep the schedule on track. - The different stops before the canyon (other than just stopping for gas and/or food) were great, especially Sedona (I wish we could have some more time there but it's a long drive up to the canyon) The best: How everything worked so well, and of course, visiting Sedona and the Grand Canyon :) Suggestions to consider: I would spend more time in Sedona and not stop in Williams, since despite it's a way to see the Route 66, there is no much to see and I think Sedona is more interesting (but this may be my personal opinion) In summary, a great Sedona + Grand Canyon in a nutshell experience. Don't expect to do more than walking on the top of the Canyon since 1 day is not enough for visiting more... but if you only have 1 day, I totally recommend booking this tour!
