Enter an opulent era at Gallier Historic House and marvel at the Victorian furnishings and decor within this architectural gem. Completed in 1860, Gallier House was designed by famed Crescent City architect, James Gallier, Jr. As a family home, Gallier House showcases several engineering innovations, such as indoor plumbing with hot and cold running water and a double skylight. Using the original household inventory as a guide, period decorative arts reflect the Galliers’ refined taste. This comfortable lifestyle was made possible through the work of enslaved people, and later domestic servants, whose work and lives are also interpreted on tours.

The focus of this tour is more on the engineering and architectural innovations of this townhouse, completed just as the Civil War was breaking out, and less on the lives and living conditions of the enslaved people who made the Gallier’s comfortable lifestyle possible.

Awesome and informative tour! We weren't sure if our schedule would allow the time, but instead of pre-booking the visit, we decided to stop by one early morning and give it a try. We were able to sign up with the 9:30 am group. Our guide was extremely informative and was able to answer all of our questions with the most patience and accuracy, making our visit most enjoyable. We got to visit most of the house, which is an unusual event when visiting many of these type of houses, so I was very pleased with the outcome. Keep in mind, both the Gallier House and the Hermann-Grima House are associated, hence, if planning on visiting both, save your receipts. Especially the receipt of the house you first toured, you can show same at the second house and get a discount.

My nephew and I were looking for a quick tour before our brunch at Court of Two Sisters. We came across this tour and thought why not. And we found this tour extremely interesting. The history of the house and all that lived there was very interesting and the house is amazing!
