No prior experience is needed, just a general level of fitness and a sense of adventure! My husband and I went for the half day canyoneering/rappelling trip. Jake and Deb were amazing! There were knowledgable and professional and went above and beyond. It was exactly what I was hoping for.. adventure and a great work out. We will definitely be back and this time, we will do the full day adventure! Thanks again Moab Canyon Tours!

Myself and my two teenagers (13 n 16) set off with guide Mike on a Saturday morning at 8 a.m. for an Entrajo Canyon tour. Mike picked us up at our campsite and we drove the short drive approximately 20 minutes to the canyon. Tour provides backpacks for you to carry your harness and water and helmet. Mike explained that the Packs get quite scratched up which is why you probably don't want to use your own pack. The trail starts with a short hike and then a fairly steep climb up to the rim of the canyon. Mike is there to instruct you and assist you at each step of the way. It is a fairly challenging climb for beginners with little climbing experience or people who are in really bad physical shape. The challenge is also a big part of what makes it so much fun. Once at the top Mike gives you instructions and has you put on your helmet and safety harness. The real fun begins when you start to descend into the canyon for the first time. The canyon has several pools that are filled with water up to waist deep. You are forced to learn some new skills about crab walking sliding climbing scrambling and rappelling to get through the canyon. Mike is a very patient and encouraging instructor throughout. The experience concluded with a Hundred-Foot Rappel over a rock face cliff which my kids although nervous at first just absolutely loved. It really is a unique experience and something that my kids will probably continue talking about for years to come. We did several other adventures in Moab including hell's Revenge, hiking the national parks, renting Jeeps for a day but this canyoneering trip was our favorite experience. I would do it again and again.

Our family (kids 10 and 11) did the Entrajo canyon with Jake. It was a great experience for first-time canyoneering, especially with kids involved. The company was great to work with on setting everything up, and they don't mix groups together so you always get your own guide, no matter the size. This was especially great for what we did, as it let us all relax and be ourselves as we helped each other through the various stages. Jake was very calm and reassuring, and was especially wonderful with the kids (and ok, also the wife) who were a bit apprehensive about some of the rappels. He picked us up and dropped us back off where we are staying (we went super early in the morning to beat the heat), and he was able to tell us lots about the terrain, plants and so forth on the hike up. The website says 4-5 hours for this particular trip, but we were through it in about 2.5 hours. In retrospect, I would have liked something that went a bit longer (I felt like I was just starting to get into it when all the sudden we were done), but it was the ideal length for the kids and wife. They were pushed beyond their comfort zone at times and they were ready to be done after the 90 foot rappel ending. So I would highly recommend this company - a smaller operation with a great guide who will take you pretty much anywhere in the area you want to go. They also give a discount if you book another kind of tour with some other local companies, such as xtreme 4x4 adventures, so be sure to ask about that. Entrajo canyon itself was great for beginners or younglings, if a bit short for those wanting to really learn and then practice some climbing techniques.
