This tour operator's communications could do with some work. On our original booking, we requested a hotel pick-up and we were promised that we would be contacted. Nothing happened, so we reached out to the tour operator ahead of time and were given a pick-up slot of 7:30-8:00, for which we had to wait outside. We were ready as requested, but by 8:10 we decided to call the tour operator to check if the pick-up was still on. We could not get an answer on the phone lines, but eventually our hotel receptionist managed to speak to someone, and we were picked up just after 8:20 (about an hour of waiting outside). Breakfast was pancakes and a couple of sausages (and coffee in a styrofoam cup, for heaven's sake), so we didn't miss much in terms of taking time for that. The bus tour covered the sights, provided constant narration, and added a few surprises on the Needles Highway. Then we returned to Fort Hays for a 'chuckwagon dinner show'. The food was, again, basic tin-plate style (meat, baked potato, baked beans, apple sauce). The show was an hour-long musical review with accomplished performers, but seemed designed for families with teens/pre-teens rather than for adults. As the 12-hour itinerary was more suitable for adults, this seemed like a mismatch. Plus, the additional waiting time made the day very long. Maybe we should have chosen a cheaper tour with fewer add-ons.
