Two of my friends and I chose New Orleans as our annual girls' trip. The owner of our lodging recommended NOLA DeTours for any tours or other needs we might have while in the city. Where do I begin? Marc Preuss of NOLA DeTours was our tour guide and all around chauffer. Marc has lived in New Orleans for many decades, worked in and managed his family's restaurant, and is well acquainted with the history and culture of New Orleans. His passion for the city and all it involves is quite evident. His guided tours are off the beaten path and provide a great lesson in the city's makeup and blending. Marc took our group on two separate tours. The first tour was a food and neighborhood tour. In each section of the city, he provided a history lesson regarding the heritage, culture and changes throughout the decades. Our second tour was an evening tour of the gaslight homes in the Garden District, the French Quarter and ended with beignets at Cafe Du Monde. The best part of our trip was Marc's personal touch to everything. We travelled to a variety of local eateries in and between each section of the city. A few of those were: Napolean's House for a Muffaletta with a side of red beans and rice. You should also try the Pimm's Cup while there as well. To Leah's, home of the oldest praline shop in NOLA. Cafe Dauphine for homemade gumbo and fried green peppers stuffed with shrimp. Vaughn's Lounge where we stopped in for a quick afternoon drink and to take in the richness of the many great people who have visited and played there. The Columns Hotel to take in its magnificence and have a signature drink, the Sazerac. Also, Marc took care of making reservations for us to have lunch at Commander's Palace. You will not be disappointed with Marc Preuss and NOLA DeTours. He is an exceptional man with a great passion for what he does. And, you never know, he may even stop by the home of his mom and dad. Should you meet them, you will see why Marc is so remarkable. Now, what are you waiting on? Go and book your tour. Do it now. You won't regret it.

We bought a tour online that was listed as a "Culinary Walking Tour" with a few food stops, along with some NOLA history. We got SO MUCH MORE! Since Marc caters the tour to your preferences, and since it was quite hot, we ended up doing a fabulous driving tour instead! We felt like we really got a great feel for the city, instead of just walking around in the French Quarter. Marc is so knowledgeable about the city's history, and we felt like we truly got an "off the beaten path" experience. We would recommend NOLA Detours to EVERYONE.

Marc’s tour presentation on TripAdvisor’s site does not do justice to the true quality of the experience. A true behind the scene tour of New Orleans, this is not your normal touristic highlights tour. A private tour, customized to your preferences, it goes in places where no other busses or vans tour go, and you might not dare go by yourself. Not because they are dangerous, far from that, as people of New Orleans are very friendly, just simple fear of unknown. Marc is a great story teller and you can immediately realize he truly loves his city. Through his very informative commentary, we learned a lot about New Orleans’ history, its ethic and architectural mix, jazz music, impacts of Katrina and most of all, the efforts of the people of New Orleans to re-develop and beautify all of the city’s neighborhoods. We got a chance to experience firsthand the revival of the hard hit neighborhoods, got an amazing breakfast in a hidden bakery in Bywater (that is known by locals only) and enjoyed the variety and beauty of New Orleans’ architecture. In a few short hours, we passed through all of the city’s neighborhoods, including a couple of suburbs. We stopped in two of the city’s main parks. We saw 900 years old oak trees, where the branches were so huge, they were hugging the ground. Also stopped by a library that was nested in an old mansion who was donated to the city by the parents of a young man who was killed in the war. And we were stopping wherever else we found something of interest. Every now and then, we passed certain buildings with amazing architecture, but hidden by the road trees, and Marc dutifully turned the car around to give us a better view/angle of the place. And to top it all off, the tour ended at the Napoleon’s House bar in French Quarter where we enjoyed the best Muffulleta and a very refreshing Pimm’s Cup cocktail. All in all, an amazing experience. We highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed.
