My girlfriend and I were in Oahu and tried putting together a surf lesson for the 2 of us from our first day on but couldn't make the logistics work due to other activities we wanted to get in. On the next to last day we walked past Big Wave Dave's and stopped to look inside and a gentleman came over and asked if we needed help and BAM !! set up with a surf lesson for early the next morning, our last day. I figured what better way to end our trip than a surfing session on Waikiki beach ! Our instructor was Alika and man he was the best. My girl had surfed before so she didn't have a hard time but I struggled to get up and through it all Alika was encouraging and constantly coaching then finally I got it. I caught a few waves and we talked and hung out , it was honestly a great day I'll never forget. I completely recommend getting a surfing lesson or any activity through Big Wave Dave's. Everyone was real cool and definitely spread Aloha. I'd use them again if I'm ever in Honolulu.

Best surf lesson! Great instructor, patient and hilarious. You can tell they love what they do. An hour and a half was plenty, I thought it wouldn't be but after wiping out a few times I had my fill of salt water after an hour and fifteen minutes :)

We had incredible surfing lessons with Big Wave Dave. They made every aspect easy and fun - starting with collecting us from our hotel. Haa (nephew of Eddie Aikau) helped my husband and me repeatedly get up on our boards (and we have the photos and videos to prove it!). Our 9 & 11 year old sons were with Josh. We loved it so much that we returned for a second session three days later. Again, Josh ensured that our kids loved it - even towing them out to sea. As a side note, later on the same trip, we took a private lesson in Kauai - and neither the instructor nor the conditions were as good. We will return to Big Wave Dave whenever (and every time) we are back in Honolulu! This is the only place to surf.....
