This small group tour took us into the part of the Rocky Mountains that I most wanted to see: high peaks surrounding mountain lakes. After a difficult series of years, my husband and I wanted to go somewhere least like our east coast home so we chose Denver. Mountain driving seemed too unlike home for comfort, so we looked into small group tours with no knowledge of what to expect but hopes to at least see something nice. It was superb. The van was comfortable and accessible. The guide, Will, asked us what we each wanted to see and planned the route accordingly. We all had a good laugh when I adored Red Rocks since I had said that was my least interest! Everything in person is so much more colorful and precisely detailed, from the extra bands of color on the red rocks to the bear scratches on the aspen trees. In addition to planning our route according to our interests, Will also made each stop customizable. For example, one lady exuberantly ran down a hill into a meadow, while I stayed close to the van due to osteoarthritis. Since I was just standing there enjoying the mountain air, Will came over and showed me the wildflowers growing nearby, identifying them and telling about them. He was a mind-reader to know how much I adore flowers! It will be one of my favorite memories of our vacation: Will picking and handing me a columbine to enjoy while the others enjoyed the meadow, the lake, and the views. He later explained to us that he is a certified naturalist along with other extensive accomplishments related to mountain living. It was a privilege to go into the mountains with such a well-qualified guide, and one who cared for each passenger’s interests and needs!
