There is so much construction in the city that it is hard to see many things. Also, the trolley car windows aren't very conducive to seeing well out of them (short and you need to be able to look up to see many of the sites being pointed out). But they played music from the trolley car era and the driver and two guides were dressed in period costumes.
Having said the above, the trolley car itself is delightful and the driver / two tour guides are quite entertaining. They take on the persona of the characters they are talking about. I found them informational and fun.
You were given enough time at both stops you were allowed to disembark. The snack was a nice surprise (ours was water or the little bottles of coke and Cracker Jacks!)
I do recommend the tour if you want to easily get the history of SLC.
