During this approx 2 -hour snorkeling tour with a knowledgeable guide, watch these extraordinary creatures feed on plentiful plankton attracted by underwater lights. With wingspans that can reach more than 20 feet (6 meters) across, manta rays have no teeth or barb on the tail. First, the crew was really nice. I’ve been on a few different kinds of Hawaii boat tours (whale watching, etc.) and this crew was probably the most proactive at attending to the guests’ needs. The hot chocolate on the return trip was a very nice touch. The swimming with manta rays was not a great experience, though. They’re wild animals and cannot be controlled, and it seems that they’ve just not been hungry at night for the couple of evenings surrounding when I went. I am sure it’s better sometimes. We did get three brief passes by a huge manta ray (it may have been the same animal all three times, or different ones). Aside from the fact that we were mostly waiting for manta rays, the sea had “texture,” as the staff generously described it. The constant waves forced me to expend more effort than I’d want to just keeping myself from slamming into the floating pad that we were required to hold onto. For me it was just an annoying struggle, but for some others it led to nausea/vomiting (including one chap who lost his dinner on the top of the pad). I like to see the positive in every situation, but it was tough in this case, when it came to the overall experience.

Thank you Trenton for the review and yes our winter months can get a little rocky. As you said the Manta Rays are wild but for most of the time we have multiple rays every night. Glad you got to see a few 😊

This is a nice tour. We only got to see 1 manta ray but that’s better than 0. We also saw an amazing sunset and beautiful complete rainbow on the way out. The hard part for us was the rocking boat and and deep breathing to ward off the sea sickness.. the crew were amazing though and overall this was a nice experience.
