We booked our tour through Goulding's Lodge, as we were staying there, which was really convenient because our Navajo guide picked us up from outside Reception. If you booked from the Visitors' Centre you'd have to drive the 4 miles there and back yourself. We made a short but interesting visit to a traditional Navajo Hogan and then drove miles through Monument Valley. Our guide was full of information and pointed out so many features and places to us. There were numerous opportunities to take photos and to get out and walk around; the whole tour was very well-paced. We had read reviews that talked about being pressurised to buy traditional wares but this did not happen to us at all. It would be most inadvisable to drive this road yourself unless you had a high wheel-base vehicle, preferably hired. The road is extremely rugged and uneven. I would warmly recommend this tour, which took us off the public 'road' and felt like a real adventure.

Our family took this tour and it was better than we ever expected! I have three boys aged 11, 13, 15... they are pretty tough critics and they absolutely loved this experience. Our tour guide, Steven, was super nice and knowledgeable and kept us all entertained. The scenery was magnificent too! This was definitely one of our favorite experiences during our 9 days in the southwest. Highly, highly recommend!
