What To Expect
1
The Mitten Buttes And Merrick Butte
First, we'll assign you a horse based on your experience, weight, and height. Then we'll start galloping towards the West Mitten Butte, followed by the East Mitten Butte. They are also known together as, The Mittens. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two gigantic mittens with their thumbs facing inwards. If you capture the Merrick Butte at an angle you see that it's between the West & East Mitten Buttes. All three buttes are commonly seen together in many popular films and images. Its elevation is over 6,200 ft making it one of the tallest buttes in Monument Valley.
2
Sentinel Mesa
Located northwest of The Mittens, it's a mountain with an elevation of over 6,400 ft. Most of the mesa is in the state of Utah, but a small southern section of it is in the state of Arizona. This breathtaking mesa can be seen from the Monument Valley Visitor Center.

We had a lovely time during our 2 hour long trip. Astonishing views. Our horses (Mack and Ting Horn) were well trained and used to following the trail. Our guide Ray Black was friendly, informative and gave good riding tips. He would mostly ride in the lead and our horses would match his pace. We also galloped briefly which was fun. We felt safe during the whole trip despite beeing begineers.

Our guide Ray was a wonderful guide, he shared with us the story of Monument valley and gives us some advices about Navajoā€™s specialties. Amazing 2 hours ride which permit us to get on the edge of one of the rock ! We recommend the tour even for rookies. Special note for the horse Trigger and Apachie !

Our guide Nelson did a wonderful job sharing the history of the valley and leading us through trails. We were able to carry water across the saddle. Recommend some riding experience for the 2 hr tour - lots of hills and opportunities to trot/gallop. Memorable and meaningful and just beautiful.
