What To Expect

The Mitten Buttes And Merrick Butte

First, we'll assign you a horse based on your experience, weight, and height. Then we'll start galloping towards the West Mitten Butte, followed by the East Mitten Butte. They are also known together as, The Mittens. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two gigantic mittens with their thumbs facing inwards. If you capture the Merrick Butte at an angle you see that it's between the West & East Mitten Buttes. All three buttes are commonly seen together in many popular films and images. Its elevation is over 6,200 ft making it one of the tallest buttes in Monument Valley.

Sentinel Mesa

Located northwest of The Mittens, it's a mountain with an elevation of over 6,400 ft. Most of the mesa is in the state of Utah, but a small southern section of it is in the state of Arizona. This breathtaking mesa can be seen from the Monument Valley Visitor Center.

Fantastic ride felt like you were in a western, well behaved horses took you on a gently trip around monument valley. Can’t recommended enough

The scenery is spectacular and seeing from horseback gives a whole different perspective. The guide was excellent and he was definitely in tune with his horse. We were on some promontories that had drop offs which was OK although I thought they might bother me. They did not. I enjoyed the ride. The one thing I didn't like is we got started a half hour late which meant the ride was only an hour and a half instead of two hours. I would have liked a credit of some kind since I missed 25% of the ride time but I wasn't perturbed about it enough to say anything.
