What To Expect

The Mitten Buttes And Merrick Butte

First, we'll assign you a horse based on your experience, weight, and height. Then we'll start galloping towards the West Mitten Butte, followed by the East Mitten Butte. They are also known together as, The Mittens. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two gigantic mittens with their thumbs facing inwards. If you capture the Merrick Butte at an angle you see that it's between the West & East Mitten Buttes. All three buttes are commonly seen together in many popular films and images. Its elevation is over 6,200 ft making it one of the tallest buttes in Monument Valley.

Sentinel Mesa

Located northwest of The Mittens, it's a mountain with an elevation of over 6,400 ft. Most of the mesa is in the state of Utah, but a small southern section of it is in the state of Arizona. This breathtaking mesa can be seen from the Monument Valley Visitor Center.

Great way to see more of the valley. We enjoyed the tour very much. My horse, Tonto, was a delight to ride and our guide was friendly and informative. We had a few stops with pictures taken and even a little canter at the end. A great experience.

The 2 Hour Horseback Tour through Monument Valley was a really great experience. The tour guide was a Navajo who lived in the area and could tell us a lot of interesting things about the culture and history of this place. The horses we got (Trigger and Bandait) were for beginners and absolutely sweet and easy to handle. My Boyfriend riding for the first time on a horse had no problems keeping up with the group. He really enjoyed the tour. But even advanced equestrians were allowed to go faster for some time. Overall we had a really great and interesting experience and we can recommend it to anyone whose visiting Monument Valley!
