What To Expect
1
West And East Mitten Buttes
We’ll begin our journey with a scenic ride to The Mittens, also known as the West and East Mitten Buttes. Enjoy stunning views and learn about the geological significance of these iconic landmarks. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two gigantic mittens with their thumbs facing inwards.
2
Sentinel Mesa
It’s often referred to as the “watchtower” of the valley due to its towering presence and strategic location. Standing at 6,200 feet, it has been a natural landmark for centuries, guiding both the Navajo people and early explorers. During horseback tours, riders can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding desert, and the mesa’s distinct shape often evokes the image of a lone sentinel keeping watch over the land. It’s a popular stop for photography, offering stunning vistas of the iconic red rock formations.

My friend and I recently embarked on a 2-hour horseback tour of Monument Valley, and it was unforgettable. The stable was easy to find with ample parking, and check-in was quick with options for helmets or cowboy hats—a nice touch! Our guide, Deion, was both friendly and knowledgeable, adding depth to the breathtaking scenery. Riding Mac and Toby (who charmed us with his occasional grazing breaks) was perfect for us as beginners, and their friendly dispositions made the experience even better. Seeing the Mesas up close on horseback was remarkable. Highly recommended!
