What To Expect

Verde River

The Classic Water to Wine tour begins with approximately an hour and a half inflatable kayak trip on a scenic stretch of the Verde River with just enough chutes and riffles to add a bit of excitement without ruffling any feathers. Your river trip ends in the shade of giant Cottonwood trees at the confluence of Oak Creek and the Verde River. Here, you take the gravel path up through the vineyards to the Tuscan farmhouse at Alcantara Vineyards for your wine tasting delight

Alcantara Vineyards and Winery

The Alcantara Vineyards is a favorite on the Verde Valley Wine Trail, featuring award-winning wines and friendly sommeliers to guide you through the tasting. Each customer gets a $20 credit (included in price) to use for wine tastings, food or gifts.

Mariano, tour guide, was wonderful in preparing us for the kayaking trip!! Seeing the great horned owl was an unexpected delight!! Migrating monarch butterfllies and yellow butterflies. We had a great time with lots of laughs. A relaxing trip that ended with a visit to wine tasting, delicious lunch and beautiful live music.

Our group had a great experience on the Water to Wine tour. Anthony and Matthew were great guides and we saw river otters and other cool wildlife. It was the perfect mix of relaxing float and small rapids.

This ended up being a fun way to change up our daily schedule of hikes/beat the heat! The river is surprisingly fast-paced at times, which was fun in our inflatable kayaks because you end up bouncing around, rather than getting stuck. We had a friendly river otter hang out at our kayaks in one of the slower sections - it was awesome getting video of him just a few feet away (even though they are apparently not a native species). The wine itself was so-so, but the easygoing vibe of the umbrella-shaded tables and a local band playing soft rock at the winery was enjoyable. Also decent sandwich options at the wine bar if you are hungry after your kayak trip.
