What To Expect

Verde River

The Classic Water to Wine tour begins with approximately an hour and a half inflatable kayak trip on a scenic stretch of the Verde River with just enough chutes and riffles to add a bit of excitement without ruffling any feathers. Your river trip ends in the shade of giant Cottonwood trees at the confluence of Oak Creek and the Verde River. Here, you take the gravel path up through the vineyards to the Tuscan farmhouse at Alcantara Vineyards for your wine tasting delight

Alcantara Vineyards and Winery

The Alcantara Vineyards is a favorite on the Verde Valley Wine Trail, featuring award-winning wines and friendly sommeliers to guide you through the tasting. Each customer gets a $20 credit (included in price) to use for wine tastings, food or gifts.

We did the Water to Wine Tour and loved it! We were very inexperienced kayakers but had lots of fun. The guides drove to the send off location and had the inflatable kayaks all ready. After some basic instruction they sent you off to go at your own pace which we loved - it was an easy float down stream and even if you were a bad paddler (like me) the water gently took you in the right direction. You get a little wet from the paddles but it was refreshing in the heat. You end right at the winery and are able to rinse off and even change clothes if you want. The wines was good and they had food as well! A great time overall!

Overall, the kayaking experience was ok, but a bit more guidance would’ve been nice. My husband was a first time kayaker and we received a 1-2 minute overview of the river and instructions...without a guide on the journey with us. We managed but having a guide on the trip and a separate driver for the bus would’ve been nice. The winery was scenic from the patio/seating area and the $20 voucher per person was a good plus. Fairly good afternoon outdoors.

What a wonderful way of spending the afternoon in your own personable inflatable kayak gently gliding down the Verde River to Alcantara winery where you are rewarded at the end of your journey (and hard work) relaxing in a beautiful winery drinking delicious wine. Highly recommend!
