45 Minute Semi-Submarine Tour of Catalina Island From Avalon

Overview
Come aboard Catalina Island's newest semi-submarine, the SS Nautilus, and enjoy a deep sea adventure 1,000 leagues beyond your imagination. The main attraction of this unique vessel allows six feet underwater viewing while staying dry so eager seafarers can get up close and face-to-face with schools of fish anticipating treats fired away from custom designed fish food torpedo buttons. Designed after America's first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus, the 45-minute journey is the destination itself as our captain and his crew ventures out on an exploratory mission to the undersea gardens of Avalon Bay.

This was even better than I expected and worth every dollar and every minute. 45 minutes seemed like a New York minute of real family friendly fun. We had a blast. There were 1,000s of fish of many varieties. All these fish come right up next to your individual port-hole windows just inches from your face. We even saw a giant Black-Sea Bass ----maybe 300 to 400 lbs. large. I was concerned about the 'sub' being claustrophobic, by that was not the case. The 'sub' was clean and spacious and more roomy than I expected. It is comfortable and air conditioned, and it was smooth sailing and calm. Easy entry and easy exit. Our Captain Vincent was awesome. Next time I am in Avalon, Catalina I will go once more. We all live in a yellow submarine.

It was fun and the kids enjoyed the ride. However, it was hard to hear the guide and learn about the fish and environment. But other than that, it was a lot of fun and just the right amount of time.
