6-Mile Geyser Hiking Tour in Yellowstone with Lunch

Overview
This tour uses the Biscuit Basin Trailhead to start the six-mile loop hike through the entire Upper Geyser Basin and returning to Biscuit Basin. This is the only hiking tour of its kind offered regularly in Yellowstone. We encounter the very busy Old Faithful area as the mid-point of our hike. Sections of this hike are on boardwalk. There are also sections on dirt trail where there are few other hikers. We encounter wildlife from time to time including bison and bear. Your guide will have a bear spray.

What To Expect
1
Upper Geyser Basin
Yellowstoneā€™s famous Old Faithful is a must-see on everyoneā€™s trip to Yellowstone National Park. This is a nice way to tour the Old Faithful area. Donā€™t get stuck in the busy traffic at Old Faithful! Meet us at the Biscuit Basin Trailhead to see Yellowstoneā€™s most famous geyser, avoiding parking problems. Explore geysers, hot springs, steam vents and mud pots along the Firehole River. The hike is a six hour, six-mile loop. There are some ups and downs along the hike as we follow boardwalks and dirt trails, totaling 500 feet of elevation gain. We learn about the supervolcano we sit in as we enjoy a hearty picnic lunch next to exploding waters. Yellowstone Hiking Guides provides a morning snack, hearty picnic lunch, bear spray, backpacks, optical gear, trekking poles, and a professional guide.
2
Old Faithful
The geyser erupts every 90 minutes. We usually see it from a couple of different locations throughout the Upper Geyser Basin and up close.
3
Old Faithful Inn
We stop by the Old Faithful Inn briefly. A restroom is available here. The Inn is a National Historic Landmark. The architecture of this early 1900s log building is unique. It hosts a massive fireplace and knobby pine accents.
4
Daisy Geyser
One of Yellowstone's lesser known geysers, this is a gem. Eruptions times can vary on this one.
5
Biscuit Basin
After hiking the Upper Geyser Basin we loop back to Biscuit Basin via Daisy Geyser. The Sapphire Pool in Biscuit Basin will be one of the last amazing hot springs we visit on the hike.
6
Observation Point Trail
This is a rugged little trail that we follow up above the boardwalks of the Upper Geyser Basin for great views. There is a great views of Old Faithful and other geysers from up there is you are able to time it right. The vista also offers stunning observations of the Yellowstone Caldera, the super-volcano crater that has been sculpted by various eruptions.

Outstanding experience. Aaron was a ā€œgeyserā€ if knowledge! He navigated us through many geysers, uphill hikes, and long stretches of beautiful earthā€¦all while explaining, teaching, and encouraging lifelong connections to Yellowstone! Iā€™m truly inspired and am so glad my family began its Yellowstone adventure with Aaron and the 5-mile Geyser Hike!

Aaron, our tour guide, was amazing, very informative, and also very patient with the two ā€œoldā€ ladies. It was definitely strenuous, but we made it!

The hike was more than 5 miles. Some parts fairly difficult. Did not see Old Faithful up close. Guide missed timing on other geysers. Would not recommend. Easier to walk with a guide book. Description says will see Old Faithful up close and the Old Faithful Inn. Did NOT happen.

Sorry to hear that the hike did go as planned for you, sir. There are options on the route to see the geyser from Observation Point that the guides sometimes decide to add. But it is possible to by-pass the dirt track and hill climb and stay solely on the boardwalk. We will ask the guides to please be more considerate if people are not interested in climbing the hill and would prefer to head to the Inn instead. Thank you for your review.
