I had hoped to do the early tour before it opens, but didn't book online early enough. I tried to book three days in advance. I think that you will get so much more out of the experience with a guide. I would highly recommend this to visitors. I am very knowledgeable about the events and aftermath of this period so did not feel I got as much as I had hoped from the museum visit. I really appreciated how organized it was and how they tried to have some control over the number of people inside the museum at one time. I purchased my ticket online, in advance, then 15 minutes before my scheduled visit time, I went to the ticket holders line (you must have a ticket with the entry time indicated on it) and they waved me in. I still felt there were too many people in one particular enclosed exhibit area to comfortably be able to see the displays, let alone feel comfortable while Covid was still an issue, but what can you do? There were lots of staff available to help both inside and outside the museum and around the memorial.

An amazing experience. The memorial outside is beautiful definitely stop by when you are in NYC. I 100% recommend paying for and going to the museum. It's a bit spendy but worth it. It is massive and you get to see and learn so much.
