Alaska Helicopter and Glacier Dogsled Tour - ANCHORAGE AREA

Overview
The most popular tour! Drive your own sled-dog team with 4 time Iditarod winner Dallas Seavey's team of mushers, handlers and champion dogs on real snow in the middle of summer surrounded by amazing scenery. Start this adventure with a helicopter ride over glaciers and icebergs. We often see moose, black bears, Dall sheep and goats. Land on a huge snow eld high on a glacier and enjoy a whole hour with champion sled dogs and their mushers that live here all summer. Take the dog team for an exhilarating ride through real snow. You can stand on the runners and mush your own dog team or just sit on the sled and let the mushers run the team. After your dogsled tour meet the canine athletes that pulled your sled, listen to stories about running sled dog races of over a 1,000 miles long, and of course take pictures with your favorite dogs. After the tour the helicopter takes you back to the lodge and you’ll fly over the lower glaciers where you can see the blue melt pools and the crevasses.

Booked this tour for myself and my 5 children (ages 6-14). While quite expensive, this excursion was intended to be the highlight of our trip to Alaska... a memory that would last forever. It didn't disappoint. The helicopter crew was great, and the dog sled operators were also very nice and knowledgeable!

This combined a helicopter ride, an incredible view of the mountains and glaciers, a dogsled ride and experience, and PUPPIES ! OK, seriously. We were well prepared for the experience from our knowledgeable guides upon our arrival. We saw a short safety video film, we put on our glacier boots, and soon we were in the air. The aerial view from the flight was amazing. We didn't just go right to the sledding camp, we got a GREAT scenic 15-20 minute ride. Soon we turned and in front of us was in the distance was the dog camp area. Really cool site. We landed and were immediately met by our guides who told us of mushing, the dogs, their life on a glacier (no tv, no cell connection, living in tents for months at a time, trip into town only once a week), all so very interesting and informative. Then a pack of dogs was tethered to the sled and they began barking in anticipation of the "run". SO COOL. We had a great ride, stopping along the way and changing places from sitting to standing on the sled, so everyone got a turn being in every position on the sled. We stopped and petted the dogs, talked to our rider who actually rides with these same dogs in the Iditeron. . . We returned to the camp and actually held a few of the puppies. . . It was certainly a once in a lifetime experience, and worth every penny. Treat yourself, you will never regret it. I know I never will forget this wonderful excursion.

We booked this adventure over the internet from Australia and at all times we were kept informed and updated. The company is very particular about safety and flying. We had an awesome experience from the ride in the helicopter from the lodge to meeting the dog team and going for the ride up on the glacier. The dogs were so happy to be running. The puppies were very cute. One of the best things we did in Alaska!
