Alcatraz Island

Board the ferry to Alcatraz at Pier 33 on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Headsets are provided to listen to the award-winning audio tour, “Doing Time”, where you will learn about notorious criminals like Al Capone, who were incarcerated here. Learn about escape attempts from 'The Rock' and listen to commentary from former inmates and staff. This will be your drop-off point. No transportation is provided after Alcatraz because you will be able to stay as long as you want on the Island until the last ferry back to Pier 33.

All the tours at Greyline are the best. all the drivers are great, friendly and very knowledgeable about all the areas around San Francisco. I used Greyline for the Nappa Valley Tour, Montery and Carmel, and the Muir Woods/Alcatraz tours. I would highly recommend to everyone to use this tour group company.

Enjoyed our tour to Muir Woods, Sausalito and Alcatraz with Fayçal as our guide. After picking us up at our hotel, Fayçal took us through a few of the neighborhoods in San Francisco and provided some interesting history of them as we worked our way towards the Golden Gate Bridge. We made a short stop at the North end of the bridge for a photo op before continuing on to Muir Woods. Our time in Muir Woods was the highlight of our trip as we had ample time to wander the lower trail through the woods and take some amazing photos with the morning sun filtering through the trees. We then departed for Sausalito when we had a brief sightseeing tour before Fayçal dropped us off for about an hour to have lunch. He recommended a few restaurants and we ended up at Napa Valley Burger where the food was good and the service was fast. We had a brief stroll along the street window shopping before having to jump back in the van and head over to the Alcatraz ferry. Once we arrived at Pier 33 we were provided our tickets for the 1:35 ferry to Alcatraz and that was the end of our journey with Fayçal. We caught the ferry and enjoyed the sights and audio tour on Alcatraz. We caught the ferry back and then were on our own to find our way back to our hotel. In retrospect, if I were to do it again, I would do a trip to Alcatraz separately from any other tour as I did not realize we would be dropped of there and would need to make our own way back to the hotel. I really enjoyed Muir Woods and would have enjoyed spending a couple of hours in Sausalito so probably would look for a tour that was more relaxed in pace.
