Enormous queues in spite of being early. This ticket does not give you anything additional from just standing in line and buying a ticket. Gave up waiting after a while.

We purchased an annual membership prior to our trip so we could use the member entrance rather than wait in the long line for the daily entrance. The cost for a family is only a little bit more to purchase an annual membership, and you can visit multiple time during your visit if you are in NYC for more than one day. The museum is massive; we spent over four hours exploring, and I am not sure we could experience everything if we would have spent four days. It is definitely a must visit if you have children with you. It got busier throughout the day, and it was worth it to us to arrive prior to opening.

NYC in July can be VERY hot, but that was okay because we spent most of the day in the museum. Went for the 'General Admission + All' tickets, which included the museum entry, all special exhibits, planetarium show and the ocean film. We told them to start us at the top of the museum and work down (since there are timed entries for most of the extras you get.) And it was a full day of awesomeness. Plus, you don't even have to leave to get food, as there's a large cafeteria on the bottom. The shows are a nice way to get in some resting time for your feet, and then it's back up to check out the next great exhibit. Even though there were a lot of visitors, this museum is so spacious we could easily view and engage with all the exhibits, and I appreciated the stickers on the floor that direct you to specific entry points so you don't get lost. Also, they sell space ice cream (freeze dried ice cream sandwiches) which is fun and delicious. This was money well spent, and my husband and I highly recommend. After, you can walk across the street for a stroll in Central Park.
