We enjoyed the whale watching trip with Outer Islands Excursions. We were on the boat Blackfish II and I do recommend it when you visit Anacortes. The Captain went out of his way to ensure we had the best experience, extending our trip by over an hour to cruise around Cypress Island, where we were fortunate enough to see a humpback whale. This was in addition to the grey whale off Whidbey Island and Steller sea lions off of Lopez earlier in the trip. The boat is very comfortable, very smooth, and very and fast! My only concern is that I donā€™t think that the on-board naturalist was familiar with Washington Stateā€™s fishing regulations as it applies to seaweeds. She was friendly and knowledgeable about whales, but in attempting to make the most of our excursion and get the customers a taste of the local sea life, she harvested some kelp fronds in a manner that is ā€˜inconsistentā€™ with the regulations. And this may or may not have been within the boundaries of Deception Pass State Park, which would have made it illegal anyway. I compliment her effort to make the trip special, but hope that she reads this review and does it within the constraints of the fishing regulations next time.

Our crew was awesome! Matt (captain), Beth, and Brooke were very knowledgeable and able to educate all of us on board. We did not see Orcas on this trip, but Matt was sure to let us watch a grey whale for about 45 minutes and this was awesome! He did his best taking us around to see as much wildlife as possible including watching a bald eagle couple and their nest. If we would have seen Orcas on this trip it would have been perfect. Thanks guys for a fun 22 year anniversary adventure.
