My husband and I are visiting Whidbey Island and took the whale watching tour today instead of wineries and shopping. Highly recommend-beautiful views of the island and of Minke and Killer whales. Captain Matt and crew Dawn and Alex were great with all ages.

Two couples took the afternoon whale watching tour. They were very accommodating due to a change in plans that caused us to be late. The captain was patient in waiting on us to board. Tour was excellent. First stopped at a reef area to view seals and saw one sea lion. Then found a pod of killer whales and followed them for quite a long time. Captain was very good in getting into a good position for best opportunity to ā€œget closeā€ to the whales. Our Naturalist was very informative about the wildlife and habitat, and very approachable for candid conversation about the trip and area. Highly recommend this group and trip, as well as the drive to the dock from Seattle was quite long, but very scenic. Would take this trip again if the opportunity arises.

We purchased our tickets on Groupon and ended up with a great deal. Highly suggest checking Groupon for tickets, because we saved probably close to half so check there first! Check-in was quick and there is an option to pay for parking either before you get there or when you get there. The parking in the lot is $7. You can rent binoculars if you would like for $10. Also, make sure you stop and use the bathroom before you get there because there are only 2 bathrooms to use before you get on the boat and they had a long line. We ended up on the Orca Express with Captain Drew, Beth and Taylor at 3:30 pm. Our tour group consisted of 48 people. At first I was concerned this would be too many people but the boat had plenty of room to sit inside. Lesson learned we should have brought plenty of snacks and drinks on board as this ended up being a longer than expected trip. There were a limited selection of snacks on board for purchase but you needed cash which we did not have. The tour ended up being almost 6 hours long! They do guarantee you will see whales so your trip can end up longer than expected. Our trip required us to go further up the straight of Georgia than expected. Again bring snacks and drinks!! There are tables inside the Orca Express where you can eat meals. There is a limit of 16 people that can be at the top of the boat but people move up and down so everyone gets a chance to be on top of the boat. Bring a jacket as it gets chilly when the sun goes down. We ended up seeing 3 Humpback whales on our tour!! We seen plenty of harbor seals and a family of Bald Eagles. I was very impressed on how knowledgeable Taylor and Beth were. Their knowledge of all the wild life was amazing and you can tell they are passionate about their jobs. We had plenty of time to view the humpbacks. We spent about 25 minutes at one location and about 20 minutes at the second viewing location.
