We had an awesome ride with a fun captain (Dave) and a very knowledgeable crew. We saw a grey whale and a pod of orca. We even got to see some fighter jets on a training run. The great hearts of the captain and crew were shown when we made a special stop to fish a fallen balloon out of the water. Great trip and great people.

We had such an amazing time on this tour. Going in I hoped we might get a glimpse of a gray whale or humpback, the last tour I took (on a different company) we didnā€™t see a single whale. But my expectations were exceeded dramatically. Not only did we spend a good amount of time watching a gray whale. We found a pod of orcas and watched them for the majority of the tour. They were absolutely stunning. The captain and crew were so friendly and knowledgeable. The weather was perfect and the scenery unbeatable. ā€œBest whale day ever!ā€, my 7 year old daughter declared. This is why we LOVE living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

We have gone on whale watching trips in Boston and consider our recent trip with Outer Island Excursions to be far more satisfying. With our crew of Capt. Drew, Alex and Brooke, we had numerous sightings of Orcas. They even went under the boat! We witnessed them playing (not quite breaching) in the wake of a cargo ship, which was quite a sight! The families were identified to us and behaviors explained. We felt very informed. Understandably, the crew has no control over how many whales can be seen in the time frame allowed for a tour. There is also a limit as to how close the boat can approach. We were fortunate on this trip to see quite a few on such a gorgeous day! In the area of Deception Pass, we saw harbor seals and an eagle. We also saw a grey whale! The boat itself was perfect for our intentions - to view sea life and scenery. (It is not a leisure ship.) And we enjoyed the company of other passengers, as well as the congenial crew. Dress in layers and know that some trips will be disappointing while others can be thrilling. On another note, if using a Groupon, you need to purchase more than 24 hours in advance of the tour you intend to book.
