Both Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend are beautiful but they are both very crowded. Horseshoe Bend can handle the crowds better than Antelope Canyon. There are two tour companies involved in this trip. The first company picks you up, drives you around, serves lunch and provides a lot of good information about the area. Our driver, Tim, was knowledgeable and entertaining. Unfortunately, our van was cramped and uncomfortable so the 13 hour round trip was not a happy experience for our group. The day I went to Antelope Canyon the local tour companies marched people through pretty quickly in one continuous line. There was no opportunity to linger and watch the changing light; there was no room to move about and get the right perspective on any picture. Our tour guide focused on taking pictures for people rather than telling us anything about the Canyon. People at the back of our group passed their cameras forward so she could get good pictures for them, which was a nice gesture but made for a tedious and boring experience. The round trip from Sedona is 13 or more hours. I would put our driving time to sightseeing time ratio at 5:2, which is too much time in an uncomfortable van for too little return on that investment, and the investment is considerable in both time and money. Donā€™t book this tour from Sedona. Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon are more reasonable departure points. But, really, donā€™t book a tour to Antelope Canyon unless you know youā€™re going to have an experience that is worth the price of admission.
