Asia in Queens: Exploring NYC’s Largest Chinatown

Overview

This diversity is perhaps best represented through Flushing’s stellar food scene. On this walk through the neighborhood, we’ll explore the area’s almost mind-blowing culinary diversity while also learning about Flushing’s fascinating history. We’ll visit vendors, the outdoor stands of local restaurants and some of Flushing’s mall-based food courts – considered by locals to have some of the area’s best eats – tasting delicacies from China, Korea, Vietnam and other countries. From stalls selling Hong Kong-style dim sum and snacks to bakeries turning out the Korean take on French pastries and a visit to a local kimchi maker, we’ll dive deep into the best that the neighborhood has to offer. On our Flushing food tour, we’ll take a look at some of area’s unique cultural markers, from a storefront Daoist temple to the Flushing Quaker Meeting House, built in 1694 – a testament to the important role the area, originally a Dutch settlement, has played in the history of New York.

Very enjoyable experience- feeding your head with local culture and history from a knowledgeable and personable guide, Sierra, as well as eating your fill of a great variety of very tasty foods. Come hungry and curious. I can't see how any foodie would be unhappy with this experience. I have taken 3 tours with Culinary Backstreets and am impressed with their high standards.

My friends and I did their other tour in Queens and knew we had to try this one!! SO. FUN. We had the absolute best time and ate so much delicious food. Esneider is an incredible tour guide. I'd go on his tour if it was about mashed potatoes b/c he makes everything so interesting with historical / sociological context and personal anecdotes.

This tour exceeded expectations. We had a very knowledgeable and well-organized guide. Our time was planned carefully to maximize our experience. There a LOT of delicious food. And the cultural and historical information provided added interesting educational information to the experience. It was great. I would give it 6 green circles if there were a way t do that!
