Asia in Queens: Exploring NYC’s Largest Chinatown

Overview
This diversity is perhaps best represented through Flushing’s stellar food scene. On this walk through the neighborhood, we’ll explore the area’s almost mind-blowing culinary diversity while also learning about Flushing’s fascinating history. We’ll visit vendors, the outdoor stands of local restaurants and some of Flushing’s mall-based food courts – considered by locals to have some of the area’s best eats – tasting delicacies from China, Korea, Vietnam and other countries. From stalls selling Hong Kong-style dim sum and snacks to bakeries turning out the Korean take on French pastries and a visit to a local kimchi maker, we’ll dive deep into the best that the neighborhood has to offer. On our Flushing food tour, we’ll take a look at some of area’s unique cultural markers, from a storefront Daoist temple to the Flushing Quaker Meeting House, built in 1694 – a testament to the important role the area, originally a Dutch settlement, has played in the history of New York.

Brought my sister to this tour when she was in the city visiting. I've lived in Brooklyn for the past decade but haven't ventured out to Flushing, so this was an adventure for both of us. Esneider was the BEST guide - super knowledgable, very interesting and also very fun. The tour was perfectly paced so that we got to try a lot of different foods but weren't horribly stuffed after - I loved the bits of history and anecdotes and Queens insider info we got along the way. Great way to spend the day and would highly recommend.

We love taking our guests off the beaten path, to places that we believe are the cultural essence of our beloved cities. This was an amazing tour and 100% due to Esneider. He is super knowledgeable and amicable. It's not just food he knows, it's history, culture, migration, urban studies, and music. I was interested in Queens as it's the largest, most modern iteration of a Chinatown in NYC, and he had answers for all my questions about the neighborhoods, the current issues of gentrification and development, of what kind of groups are immigrating in and out, the changes in food culture and trends, everything. It's not just the food in Queens, but the full context. I was in heaven. And the food, yet another plane of heaven. And a lot of it. Bring Tupperware (but he's prepared too)! I cannot recommend this highly enough, completely worth it.

Amazing food tasting experience and historical sites. Highly recommend! Do not eat before and no need to eat after. It’s plenty of food and worth the cost.
